One thing I found about Holy Grail War series, the repeating stories became atale fast. This one also has it's own heavy mystery and secret answers. It's fast solving problems were interesting, but at the same time boring AF. The best aspect of FateStrange Fake is the concept of Fake Holy Grail War in US that broke the rules of the war itself. Too many mysterious masters is the best thing the creative team introduced. The battle animation scenes which usually took awards, was not the focus. The story was. For this alone made FateStrange Fake enjoyable. But the main attraction for me personally is Hiroyuki Sawana, the composer of this series. The opening song itself worth my attention to watch the series.
I am a big fan of the Fate series as a whole, but not really of the prior spin offs. I never gave them maybe the time they deserved, so I do plan on going back and giving them a good chance… However, Fate/strange Fake is definitely a banger, probably the most enjoyable 1st episode of all the series. Pretty easy to follow with no prior context of the series, I would imagine.
7 episodes in and the show is alright, maybe a 6/10. The plot is all over the place with no direction, the masters barely have any personality & are quite unlikeable. The characters backstories/motivations have yet to be explored. It's just a nonsensical show at this point, not even worthy of being called a fighting shounen either.
Shouldn't Whispers of Dawn be the first episode?
