Rose Byrne aces this self-depricating, double-faced piece of work. A treat of a character arc to watch unravel. Quality dark comedy, settings and atmosphere get an A+ as well. However, it's a moral dump of a show, going to even darker places and sending out messages that you might be not that comfortable with in this era, but the hook of this meek-to-monster transformation is way stronger than I expected.
[tv+] There is something that doesn't work in this proposal, shy in its approaches and off-center in its development. Set in the 80s, with elements of the 90s and aesthetics of the 70s, the story is also anachronistically chaotic, weak in an empowerment that fits badly with that period and repetitive in the neurotic representation of its protagonist, which is performed with conviction by actress Rose Byrne.
Good soundtrack, every single adult on this show is a terrible broken individual. It’s engaging but very bleak. A little over the top or maybe that’s just 80’s California.
Set in the 80s with an 80s soundtrack? Rose Byrne as a housewife who wants something better? Yep. All in.
The show as moments where it really shines but that's sadly not enough.
