Do you know my poetry?
A great performance by Johnny Depp of this man who dies very slowly.
A brilliant, important, stirring, poetic film complete with a soundtrack that recalls (or inspired) Fusinato.
Shot in striking black and white, Dead Man turns a simple Western setup into a funny, artsy, and deeply weird surreal odyssey, with Johnny Depp drifting through a dreamlike frontier alongside a famously stacked cast. It’s the kind of movie that keeps making you wonder whether you’re watching a dark comedy, a ghost story, or just one long fever dream, and honestly the answer is probably all three. I admired it more than I loved it: the imagery is gorgeous, the oddball humor lands more often than you’d expect, and the whole thing has that unmistakable “important art film” energy, but it’s also so strange and self-consciously arty that it feels like the kind of movie most people only need to experience once.
Not my favorite Jarmusch. Lackluster script and artsy spiritual dialogue with questionable purpose, it's hard to really ever consider changing my mind. Have yet to finish this in 1 sitting or once through.
