[5.75/10] I had been intrigued by this film for about a decade. I figured it probably wasn’t very good, but a recent recommendation finally pushed me to watch it. Honestly, I loved how it started. The atmosphere was surprisingly grounded and magical. The script, story, music, and acting were all fine. There were some silly moments too, but it actually managed to be a bit frightening at parts! I probably would have loved it as a child (though it’s definitely not child-appropriate, lol). The strangest thing about it was how the cast just didn’t seem to mesh. The acting itself was fine, but some performances didn’t quite click together. Sigourney Weaver and Sam Neill seemed odd choices for these roles. I think if either had been recast, it might have helped. It almost felt like they gave the roles to the first two qualified actors who wanted them. (And I say this as a fan of both.) That said, I really didn’t hate the film. I might even watch it again if someone asked me to. It has a certain quality I enjoy, even if it didn’t fully come together.

6/10 is high for such garbage. I'm surprised big names like Sigourney Weaver and Sam Neill took part in this mess. Only reason I'm not rating it less than 3 is the set pieces and costumes were actually decent looking. Shame the script and performances have not done them justice.
