Dumbest movie ever, a want a be get out

This movie's first half starts out kind of limp, failing to build the kind of insidious tension underneath the surface of this so-called island paradise. During this first half, I kept thinking about Get Out and how it was able to build that sense of uncanniness and weirdness in a way that this movie kind of failed to do, instead often using quick cuts and drug-induced surreal sequences. Eventually, though, the movie starts to play its hand, and the horrors start to unfold in a sickening way. I thought this section of the movie was done pretty well, anchored by strong acting from Naomi Ackie and Adria Arjona. The problem is that as the movie careens toward its ending, it starts to lose sense of the heart at the center of everything. With a concept like this, you need to fully commit to the themes and not try to do too much. Unfortunately, this movie starts to muddle it, with an ending that almost feels like it is undercutting the message it spent so long building up. It's a slick, stylish movie with an important message that unfortunately gets in its own way and lacks the polish it really deserves. Considering it is a debut, Kravitz does an admirable job and can hopefully grow from here.

Unbelievably bad, so cringe it's almost impressive.

This movie feels like someone had a reasonably interesting idea, and instead of developing it, they just made a movie right away. What could have made for an interesting payoff, goes nowhere, and the ending is just bland. Most of the movie is just filler that is there to get almost a 2-hour runtime. And when something starts happening, it just becomes stupid. Looking back, I only liked the performance of Tatum, which was quite unhinged in some moments.

Zoë Kravitz, I formally apologize for assuming this would be nothing more than a nepo baby vanity project. This was incredible. Gripping, horrifying, and extremely funny. I was zoning out a little during the first act, but it eventually pulled me in and did not let go. (Not sure I loved the ending tag, but that's a small gripe.) Blink Twice is bold, stylish, confident, efficient. It trusts you to pay attention without needing to over-explain. You won't want to blink twice—or once, for that matter—for fear of missing a single frame. The entire cast is fantastic, though Adria Ajorna once again outshines everyone else on screen. Am going to need Zoë Kravitz to make me some Spotify playlists please. >"That's gonna open up beautifully."
