Dreadfully slow paced. No interest whatsoever in any of the characters. The synopsis offers more than what is given. 2/10.

I have mixed feelings about this movie. It began as quite intriguing and mysterious, gradually transitioning into a thriller. I anticipated a horror-type movie where the antagonist would have some connection to a higher power, but this did not occur. Overall, it was a reasonably good movie.

*The Village* meets... an *X-Men*!? I would describe this as a slowburn psychological drama that eventually turns into a thriller. A cautionary tale on comfort and how people react when they lose that comfort, but also on the exploitation of a miracle. That and so much more. ***The King Tide*** is thought-provoking and thematically ample and for that I found it fascinating from start to finish. Love the premise and just refreshing overall. Very deserving of it's title because we really did see the highest high tide and the lowest low tide of this isolated community. Fascinating life style and characters although some of them didn't get as much love as others. Could have used a longer runtime to really flesh everything out, or heck even make a miniseries out of it. Still, they did well because I was invested in pretty much every character. Wanted more Isla screen presence in the second half though. My biggest criticism is the spoonfeeding, it's really not as subtle as it should be. Good performances from everyone all around, beautiful Newfoundland location, nice costumes, can't remember if there was a score or not so that's not a good sign, not the best pacing and I found it predictable at the end. Too much foreshadowing, could have erased a certain scene from the movie because all I was thinking about was that idea returning to the script. Nice ending though.

What is this movie? I'd say the best way to describe it is as a fable. This isn't a happy film. It's good - and because it's good, I don't like it. Have you ever watched a film on your own and had to take a break? (Movies have a different dynamic in group settings) I had to do that with this one. There's a turning point in this film that, if you're into it and a decent human, will provoke a reaction. The story escalates quickly after that. We need more well-written intelligent movies likes this. As I'm fond of saying, content is king. This is the type of film that needs to be produced and supported (although I wouldn't mind happier fare). Despite anything heightened in the storytelling, this is a wholly believable tale. The acting is good. The locale is beautiful. While not filmed in a striking manner, it's shot well and everything suits and serves the story. It's organic. Naturalistic. The closing shot is beautiful and contextually appropriate. This is a balanced all around solid film. [spoiler]I wish I could argue with the script. With how things played out. Unfortunately, it didn't strike a wrong note. Everything in this film not only felt real, but, if anything, could've gone further south.[/spoiler] The rating for this film is closer to an 8 than a 6.
