Deep like a Tyrannosaur's foot print. Good film. Strong story plot.
I’ve had this on my watchlist for a bit of time now ever since I watched Patty Considine’s other movie. The funny thing is though that Joe ended up choosing this for our weekly swap. I was surprised that he randomly chose this but was also ready to finally watch it. I expected this to be pretty heavy I just didn’t really see this coming. It’s really dark and heartbreaking. It deals with a lot of heavy topics. It’s definitely not an easy watch. The performances from Olivia Colman and Peter Mullen were absolutely terrific. The story moves along extremely slow throughout. At first I didn’t really care for the character Joseph but as the movie moves along you get to know and understand him better. I thought the movie was extremely well made and done really beautifully in a very dark way. I just can’t really see myself coming back to this one because of how slow and dark it was. With that being said as a one time watch it’s definitely a good movie. * Movie swapping with Joe
Everything here is marked by desolation, presenting a heavy, pessimistic and depressing plot. The characters, lost in degrading lives, are traversed by situations of constant hopelessness, where their paths cross at the worst moments as they search, almost desperately, for some sense. The film focuses deeply on the realistic performances of Olivia Colman and Peter Mullan, and their delivery of their roles is extremely authentic, intensifying the emotionally exhausting experience of the film through raw and harrowing scenes.
It's not a great movie. It's violent, offensive, angry. And through it all, once again Olivia Colman shows that she deserves to get a break and get the recognition she deserves from all the years of being in movies like this.
Movie about emotional suffering, abuse and coping. Some nasty and all too realistic English characters along the way. As the movie progresses the story progression just gets better and better, as they should. Very emotional moments in this. I cried. I don't think this story could have been told any better. It's real, horrific, relatable and superbly acted. Paddy got some great performances here. Outstanding performances. And who knew Paddy was so good? I've seen him in a few movies and like him so was curious about his project. He gets it. He writes dialogue with a perfect balance of plot development/revealing, natural character based filler/relationship interaction and sheer flow. Some scenes are not dialogue and they are still powerful. He knows where to insert actions instead of words. One of my favorite movies but hard to watch. I watch ant Paddy to do another genre.
