Debt Collectors, the equally fun sequel to debt collector and one that deserves to be a trilogy! Make it happen Jesse V. Johnson! Anyway, they both survived the ending of part 1, watch it to find out how, apparently Adkins's knob doesn't like the cold, still haven't figured out if MMA is better than boxing, Louis Mandylor's Sue is still the best thing about these films, Mayling Ng has some serious thighs, the fight between Sue and Frenchie was the best, Frenchie first car was like a wheelchair with a roof, still collecting debts, loads of fun action and another shootout, Mandylor and Adkins still have amazing chemistry together and Debt Collectors is another fun way to spend 100 minutes. Really needed a fun film like this after having watched Midsommar today!
As sequels go, this one is a blast: just as fun as the first, maybe even a little more comfortable in its own battered skin. Scott Adkins and Louis Mandylor have real buddy-movie chemistry, and that chemistry does a lot of the heavy lifting while fists, elbows, and bad decisions fly through Los Angeles and Las Vegas. It helps that these movies never try to pretend Adkins is some spotless superhero who walks away from every fight like he just stepped out of hair and makeup. You see the bruises, the blood, the pain, and it makes the mayhem feel a little more grounded even when the movie is being gloriously over the top. I also love that it does not solve every problem with guns. There are plenty of fight scenes, plenty of comedy, and just enough criminal-underworld grime to keep it from feeling too slick. The whole thing has the loose, rambling charm of an action series that could easily keep going as a TV show or crank out a part three without anybody complaining. Critics were split, but even the mixed reviews tended to single out Adkins and Mandylor’s banter as the main attraction, and that feels exactly right.
