Fine light watch if your a Kung Fu Panda fan in the holiday spirit.

James Hong is the secret weapon of the franchise, and this is the first entry to realize that. It’s a wonderful coda to the first film, showing that Po may be a dragon warrior, but he’s also still a son. He can be both, and he will always love and value his father. Hong plays Ping perfectly, never losing sight of the heart of the character, nailing the comedy but never going broad when it’s time for drama. He and the film avoid a big yelling argument and go for a quiet scene instead, trying not to dictate his son’s life but unable to hide his sadness. And his joy when Po comes back is wonderful. Add in a surprising running gag of a bunny demanding his death and trying to kill himself, and it’s a wonderful time.
