There are two other comments on this page at the time of writing, and I think they are way off the mark. We don't need the context of black struggles, as these should be clear to us by now. This isn't a film about a white saviour, it's about the enlightenment of a man who used to be racist. His story is actually very interesting, and because of the time and the sect he had been a part of, his is a story of courage. So, thank goodness for him, and his realisation of the error of his ways. And thank goodness for Ann Atwater and the resilience she showed against the racism around her. This is a good film and is worth a watch, and I hope its message of tolerance hits home, especially to those who are prejudiced against another, in whatever way.

This flick my friends was as good as it could get. You are either going to love it or you are going to think it is totally ignorant. It is to the latter that I say, when will you grow up? Times have been changing right before your eyes and you failed to even notice. My hats off to the people involved with the creation of this time piece.

This film is kind of meh. I can see why it struggled in theaters. As much as I love Sam Rockwell, I wish the film focused more on the Ann Atwater character, and the black people in general. I think the director fails to provide any real context to their story and struggles.

Henson, Rockwell and Heche are phenomenal. Someone mentioned the struggle movies being played out and the white savior stuff being played out. That's not this movie at all. What is this movie then? A true story about a man who had everything he thought he ever wanted through his membership in the Klan. Who realizes that's not what he believed. It's not another movie about the great white white hope or hype saving the day. it's about a man's journey to redemption by the saving grace of circumstances he didn't want to be in, with the help of people he never imagined could help him. it's not about him saving anyone. it's about him being saved.
