I really enjoyed the first one but sadly this sequel is nothing like it. It features a whole bunch of people we don't know and the ones we do barely have screen time. Stallone himself only appears for fifteen minutes total which is a damn shame. It was also an incoherent mess and a story that made absolutely no sense whatsoever. There was no emotional attachment to any of the characters yet they tried to make certain scenes "sad" by adding tragic music. Sad music isn't enough to make me care. Please Sly, you can do better than this.
I HATED this movie. I loved Escape Plan, I think it's underrated. I was shocked last night when I saw this on iTunes to little or no fanfare and then I wasn't so shocked when I started watching. Sly and Bautista are not the stars of this film by a long shot. The real star of the film is Shu and Sly's voiceover, which accompanies each and every move Shu makes. Is Shu just remembering old lessons of Sly's that happen to coincide with his plight? Is Sly watching the movie and providing commentary? Who knows. This movie is awful and the CGI is subpar. I knew I was in trouble the second the movie opened and a roof exploded with the most hilarious, iphone level CGI fire I've ever seen. Once I realized I had fallen victim to a classic bait n switch, I tried to remain optimistic. I did pay 5 bucks to rent this so why not give it a fair shake. I just couldn't enjoy this movie. Lame effects, generic bearded bros, constant VO, bad fight editing, blah blah blah. Just not good!
Rarely does a sequel manage to so thoroughly destroy the little good its predecessor left behind. Escape Plan 2: Hades tries to look deeper and smarter than it really is, and the result is a senseless mess, lacking logic or any real interest. The film is nonsense from the very beginning, with dialogues that aim for philosophical but end up sounding ridiculous, action scenes that are confusing, and a story that feels made up on the spot. Stallone, lost in a directionless script, barely has any moments to shine, and the rest of the cast doesn't manage to lift it either. The worst part is the constant feeling that everything is just an excuse to fill time without any real effort or care. It doesn't entertain, it doesn't excite, and it doesn't even manage to be laughably bad – it just bores and disappoints. If someone recommends it to you, you might want to rethink that friendship. A total disaster that only serves as a warning of how not to make a sequel.
A low-budget straight to video sequel, Escape Plan 2: HADES is a major departure from the original. While attending a bachelor party with his cousin, Breslin Security consultant Shu is abducted and held prisoner at a black site called HADES, and while he works to escape his team realizes what’s happened and starts looking for him. The plot doesn’t make a whole lot of sense and is full of bad clichés. Sylvester Stallone takes a backseat to Chinese marshal artist/film star Huang Xiaoming, who really doesn’t have any charisma. Also joining the cast are David Bautistia and Jaime King. Escape Plan 2: HADES has none of the tension and suspense of the first film, and nothing fresh or exciting to offer.
The first movie was great, but this one has boring characters and bad and unnecessary CGI effects.
