Critics were harsh. Audiences who went in without the comparison baggage felt differently. I clearly fall in the second camp. The film earns its emotional moments through its music and its dialogues. The actors did good and the writing gives them some genuinely beautiful lines to carry. Scotland as a backdrop adds a quiet melancholy that suits the story perfectly. And that twist when Amar returns - if you're already emotionally invested by then, it hits hard. "Jab rona aaye to phoot ke rolo, aur jab pyaar aaye to gale laga lo" - simple but it lands. Not a great film technically. But it has a sincere heart and that's enough.
