If the system is more important than the people, people suffer and die. Those men didn't have to die. Of course there is a bit of dramatization involved, it is a movie not a documentary. But I am glad they didn't turn it into an action-cgi-flick à la Hollywood. The message is clear, yet it is not hammered in.
_Kursk_ is an emotional and frustrating movie that offers a glimpse into the tragic events of the submarine disaster. The film portrays the disastrous aftermath of the accident and the struggle for survival of the crew members. The movie is well-made, and the performances of the actors add to its emotional weight. However, while watching the film, I couldn't help but wonder how much of it was actually true and how much was fabricated for cinematic effect.
A long, sometimes drawn out film that requires patience at times. However, the true story is a compelling and maddening one, so the film is occasionally quite powerful.
It took us by surprise—it's very intense. You can feel the drama even though you know how it's going to end.
Due to national pride, an entire crew dies. The movie Kursk tells the story of the sinking of the Russian Oscar II-class submarine K-141 Kursk on August 12, 2000, at the bottom of the sea. The submarine sank after an internal explosion caused by a mixture of hydrogen peroxide and other components. The film follows the crew who survived the initial explosion and tried to stay alive for hours afterward. It also depicts the Russian government's response to the disaster, which involved delaying international aid. If Russia had accepted external help, especially from Europe, there was a chance to save the crew. The movie is slow at first but becomes thrilling during the events. The acting is good. Rating: 6.5/10.
