This was a neat little Australian coming-of-age story. In a lot of ways it reminded me of an updated version of Heathers (that movie didn't hold up over time). Some of this is like Wes Anderson crossed with Napoleon Dynamite, Dazed and Confused, Takeshi Kitano and Spike Jonze. It's quirky, visceral and loud. It loses it's way a touch in the middle section but looks gorgeous and is a lovely way to spend 85 minutes. There's at least 3 different sets of twins in it.

Surreal doesn't even begin to cover what just happened in front of my eyes. We have a local puppet theater company whose aesthetic matches very much with the movie, so while this movie reminded me fondly of the theater company, it otherwise didn't hold my interest. Stripped of its aesthetic trappings, the coming of age story it was trying to tell has been done in a way that connects better with me as an audience member in other movies. It reminded me a lot of the movie Napoleon Dynamite. Perhaps that would make a good double-feature movie pairing.

Quirky and fun, with a similar style to Wes Anderson as mentioned by Saint below. However, the move into fantasy undermined the film for me. Still, a film not afraid to blaze its own trail, regardless of whatever anybody else thinks.

Reminiscent of Wes Anderson, this coming of age metaphor entertains visually as much as it does intellectually.
