I have a child who loves the "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" series of books. Once she found out that there was going to be a movie about the middle school misadventures of Greg Heffley I got a homework assignment from her to read the first book. I'm not the least bit concerned to admit that I really enjoyed it so with only some trepidation I agreed to see the live action adaptation of the debut book. The "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" movie was pretty entertaining and funny in places but the casting of the characters just seemed off. Not the least of which was Greg Heffley himself played by Zachary Gordon. He's a cute kid and all but Heffley is really not a likeable character here. In the book Greg Heffley is someone you care about. And speaking of the book they should try making this movie again but this time animate it.

Absolute god tier casting. Its rare to achieve that.

A pretty fun silly family movie that teaches a good lesson to young kids that popularity is not everything as friendship is most important. The plot development of this film is very good as you see two best friends juggle the tough social life of being new to middle school. There are some great characters like the older brother and the dad that are comical to add the fun to this film.

It's okay. Just to see once. The idea was nice, but it could have been better.
