My problem with Griffith is not just his regressive and hateful politics, it’s also his stentorian, censorious, didactic approach to beating the audience over the head with his moral message. The writing always gives the impression of the “voice of God” and the films lack depth because his characters are merely fable. Really just not my thing. Ice floe scene was pretty crazy though!
