GIVE THE DOG AN OSCAR
After tons of CGI action blockbuster you really appreciate a movie like this. A real story, real actors and real acting. Worth every minute.
Jack Nicholson is hilarious! I think "As good as it gets" is the best "Drama" I know.
this movie is medicine for the heart. a romantic comedy with lots of drama and no cheesiness. just authentic people (if one can say about characters in a movie) grounded in reality, with problems, needs, desires, struggles and hopes. Helen Hunt is amazing in this role of balancing a strong, wise cracking, hard working mom with a vulnerable, unseen woman who sacrifices everything for the care of her sick son. Jack Nickolson as a weird, obessive misanthroph, who hates life and people is a treat to watch. But what makes this movie truly awesome is that the plot touches on true love, friendship and discovering the importance of that without ever falling into cringy hollywood cliches. a must watch if you love great acting, witty dialogues and moments of everyday life poetry. a true cinema gem.
It's a bit of a pity how much of this film is marred and stuck in making a gay character revel in trauma. It's a bit of a pity how his arc is literally only here to support and change a straight asshole. It's a bit of a pity how this film is completely wrapped up in a really confusing and inaccurate portrait of OCD that is just magically cured by love. It's a pity because on a moment to moment experience, _As Good As It Gets_ can be pretty charming. But I was never really able to just get into this movie. For ever time I felt myself starting to vibe with the flow of it, I was pulled out by something. It's just kind of weird how this operates too because it almost seems self-aware about the creepiness of the whole central romance, but conveniently wants you to forget it by the end of the movie. Listen, I love Jack Nicholson as much as the next guy but the romance of this film is between a financially insecure waitress and a sugar daddy.
