It’s a pity this doesn’t build on the first _Vacancy_ movie, which admittedly relied more on its excellent tension-building and good cast rather than a substantive plot. But considering this is meant to be an origin story, it’s as equally surface level as the first, which is kind of unforgivable as it’s surely its raison d’etre to expand on the background. It’s enjoyable enough but feels rather generic and surplus to requirements, as I don’t feel it added anything to the _Vacancy_ story.
