It would have required a much deeper historical investigation beyond the discovery of the photographs and documents kept by the grandfather, and greater depth in the interviews with historians and researchers beyond a few questions to participants in demonstrations or inquiries among family members. It works better in the intimate, family setting than in its purported importance to Dominicans in general, but at least it offers a committed portrait that reflects on the weaknesses and strengths of democracy in the Dominican Republic.
