3 Thoughts After Watching ‘The Funhouse’: 1. I feel very betrayed by the awesome poster/cover photo. That psychotic clown image really grabs ya, makes you think you’re in for a horrific treat. But that dude was nowhere to be seen. Not a single clown in sight actually. Instead, we get a guy in the most unconvincing Halloween mask ever, with Albert Einstein hair no less, and the grating attitude of a whiny teenager. Not scary, y’all. 2. It started out oh-so-promising. Solid 80s horror vibes in a super creepy setting. I was even okay with the hour-long, slow-burning setup. But it went nowhere fast, and there was zero payoff. Awful ending. 3. So much time was spent on the brother. For absolutely no reason.

I thought it was alright. The reveal under the Frankenstein's monster mask was good. It had a good amount of 80's cheese in it.

This carnival slasher/horror is a really fun experience, not offering a lot in terms of violence and gore, but there is no doubt the atmosphere and sets are awesome. They're so detailed and there's also a lot of weirdness going on that I can easily forgive its dull stock slasher characters. I really dig the opening that's definitely paying homage to both Halloween and Psycho. There's a lot of setup but it builds enough suspense and the vibe of this feels a lot like a haunted house. There are some truly nightmarish terror-inducing sequences and the design of the monsters are all amazing. Perhaps, my only complaint would be that final girl moment felt a bit too long and the little brother plot point was unnecessary, but that's a minor complaint compared to how great the rest of the film is.
