Very creepy movie. The way everything is set up and filmed, it just feels extremely unsettling. The mystery in itself is introduced right away, and then it just latches on to you and keeps you craving the answer all the way up to the end. But do you get the answer? Well. I'd say not really. But in some ways I'd say it doesn't matter much in this movie because the ride there was pretty intense. Which is what horror is all about at its core anyway. The lack of a crystal clear resolution may be a bit annoying, but at the same time it upholds the mysterious tone set throughout the film and it leaves you wondering a bit. Anyway, pretty cool movie.
Even though the film still suffers from whatever that usually holds the found footage subgenre, it has everything that makes the subgenre so terrifying to me. There's no need for anything groundbreaking, just take the tropes and heightens them to perfection, and this film does just that. I personally love watching horror films but for some reason going through haunted house attractions is too scary for me. I went to one when I was 16 and I don't wanna do that shit ever again. This film really captures that feeling and got me really thinking what would happen that would freak me out like shadows in the corner or clowns showing up out of nowhere. That strobe light scene is the best moment! The footage look genuine and these aspects really help the film to feel realistic. A solid film overall and what they're able to do with the budget is really good.
I haven't watched a Found Footage film in a long, long time so when I heard about Hell House LLC and found out what it was about, I was interested. It's about those populair Haunted Houses and a group of friends setting one up in a old Hotel with history behind it. We see the documentary about and and like a third in, we really starting to see the found footage and it is done well. Bit by bit you discover more and more. And another good thing is that most of the cast is likeable! We do get your standard talking to the wall, a bit to many of the same scares and a deadly end. But there are a few really, nerve wrecking scenes done very well! Even if I watched it in the morning. (Too tired last night when I got home from work to watch it in the night). The cast is acting well too for a Found Footage film! And you want to know how the mystery unfolds, so Hell House got that going for it! I do believe there was more potential left on the table, which is a sad thing but it is very, very enjoyable! And I really, really liked it and soon after seeing it, I recommended it to a few colleagues. Which says a lot right? So if you are looking for a Found Footage film to watch this Halloween season, this is one I can recommend!
Found Footage is either hit or miss with me. This would be a miss. While this is an interesting premise, it's just dependent on making you anticipate the jump scares. Or it forces you to glare through open doors or peer into long hallways, thinking you're supposed to see something scary. The cast is dull and the characters are one-note.
