Not a bad little story. I wanted to like it more. It doesn't take itself serious, which helps the movie have an atmosphere. But I think it should have taken itself serious more, more often, to also create a horrific atmosphere. I liked the main character, but I wished I'd seen other sides to her. She was a bit flat and just took us from beginning to end with no real intrigue. You can't rely on some classical music for emotional impact, you have to create some meaning. The actress did great. It could have been more. Mary could have been a classic character but she isn't. Her character change was too sudden, even considering what happened to her. It could have delved into human psycology way more considering the subject matter. This is just my preference and most people won't have an issue with this movie. It was worth a watch and I admire some parts of it. For me, one watch is enough.
The movie derives its horror mainly from the close-up views of surgical procedures. The movie also takes the viewer into a world of people wanting extreme body transformations and it has an edge of what happens when you mess with a surgeon. A good movie of the genre that I recommend for fans of this kind of movie.
The movie had some vibes in the first half but the second half completely shits the bed. What a bad movie and terrible acting. Even Katherine Isabelle's outfits can't save this shitty movie.
Well, it was different. A bit of a rape/revenge flick with a unique twist. The body horror was definitely above par and the story itself was, IMO, better than a lot of the stuff floating around out there today. It _was_ difficult, at times, to really follow the story; I'm still not sure who/what the blonde was that "Mary" walked in on with "Billy"...or why "Mary" got so upset about it. That and some other loose ends/subplots that were just left hanging kind of distracted from the main story itself, which _could have been_ great. (The German "twins" that wanted to be "connected" and the whole thing with 'Nana' too; what did that have to do with the rest of the story? And what happened to the twins?) Also, the ending was just oh so completely lame; it was as if the producers got bored and said, _"Can we just finish this and go home?"_ or something. I mean...this (the micro-story that the ending revolved around) could have been written into the story itself almost flawlessly, but they throw it in at the last second and offer no explanation as to WHY or even really WHAT HAPPENED. You're left semi-guessing, but even that is vague at best. Such a horridly lame ending for what, overall, was a good (if not great) story. The film's dialogue left something to be desired but again, the story made up for it. If there was one real "complaint" that I have, it's that they could have left the rape scene to the imagination rather than acting the entire thing out. I mean, come on...you slip something into her drink, lead her to a bed under the guise of _"You need to lie down"_ and anybody can guess what happens next: they could have completely left that scene out, cut to the "waking up the next morning" scene, and the story wouldn't have lost anything. Not sure why they had to include the entire scene but it just made that part of the film uncomfortable. (And yes, "Dr. Walsh" deserved everything she did to him. IMO, all rapists should be left to a demise like that.) It was an easy enough watch at an hour and forty minutes (give or take) and for fans of body horror, this was great. Just expect to be very disappointed with the conclusion because they really didn't do that part justice. And just one more thing: I've never seen a surgeon walking around a hospital in stilleto heels. That part was pretty ridiculous.
