Steve Kostanski gets EXACTLY what I wanted from a Deathstalker reboot. I loved it.

Han Swole-o and his Yoda backpack with The Sidechick in the adventure of the cursed waffle! Great retro romp that aaalmost can stand on it's own legs. Delightful low budget practical effects, neat mock primitive digital effects, cool custom soundtrack and the [spoiler]stop motion skeletons[/spoiler] made me literally go no fucking way this is awesome! That said, it is not entirely without issues. The effects and in particular the masks could be just one little pinhole less low budget with some animation, and I'm not sure why Brisbane is LARPing rather than acting. Still, original vintage 80s B-movies are riddled with other problems so maybe these are all moot points. Regardless, if you know why you got this movie on your radar, you will not be disappointed.

La película entrega exactamente lo que promete, una épica de espada y brujería cargada de efectos prácticos y gore. Más que un tributo a Conan, funciona como un homenaje a las explotaciones de bajo presupuesto que llenaban los videoclubs en los ochenta. Al ser un remake de la saga producida por Roger Corman, la experiencia me transportó directamente a mi infancia. ⚔

"Deathstalker, we can leave now" Nostalgia from 80s sword and sorcery movies, nostalgia from 90s syndicated action adventure shows made me enjoy this movie more than I should have. Even the end credit song gives 80's hair band vibes. Good times.

An absolute blast. Ultra bloody, fantastic practical creature effects. Bring on the sequel.
