What a dumb film. The characters are awful and the plot is just stupid, goes really over the top and gets kinda pretentious, especially the ending. It even ends with flowery church music and a Shakespeare quote. Is it suppose to be a joke or something? Directed by a Russian, I think his only english film, and written by a strange group including Akira Kurosawa. Bizarre.
Jon Voight always plays such a great psycho. The nihilism and viciousness of his character make this movie as engaging as it is. It's otherwise an entertaining action/thriller, with some great, intense sequences.
I’ve been itching to see this movie for years but I always wanted to own it first. I was so excited when Kino Lorber announced this on 4K, I knew I needed it. I recently pulled the trigger and ordered it during the most recent Kino sale. I would say it lived up to my expectations and then some probably. This was a pretty awesome movie from start to finish. It’s a top notch thrill ride. It’s suspenseful and has strong characters. The performances from Jon Voight and Eric Roberts were excellent. They just became completely engrossed in their characters. Rebecca De Mornay was also very good. I liked her character a lot. The movie started out very strong and developed the characters very well. I was invested from the start. Things did get a tiny bit stagnant in the middle but nothing that bad. I was never bored and I was totally engaged. The final act was absolutely awesome. It was kind of a beautiful way to end this. This is absolutely a stellar ride all the way through. I’m so glad I decided to finally check it out. This was a perfect blind buy. * Kino Lorber 4K Ultra HD
You're an animal! No, worse. human. filming this movie must have been a nightmare. it was done so well. the start and build is slow and not that special. but then it gets philosophical and suprisingly meaningful in the last act. and it makes up for the whole movie. but i wished we got to see more of that in the early parts of the movie too. but it didnt.
Very good, borderline great. Starts strong with a grindhouse feel, depicting a rural jailbreak in the dead of winter. After the plot is fully revealed it sadly peters out little-by-little. Jon Voight carries the other actors here. The ending is good, but again, not great.
