Worse than 1, Ice Cube is not Vin Diesel, but it's entertaining. What a surprise with who is the bad guy :-)
Yesterday I've watched the first xXx movie, today the second and in my opinion, the second is better. The plot is more developed (well, let's face it, it's not new, so not too much effort has been put there ^^), and it seems more legit to chose an ex-seal as an agent than some random criminal extreme sports freak. It's all good fun and action.
> "Wars come and go, but my soldiers stay eternal." These xXx movies are not great. Ok, now that that's out of the way, this sequel has a different vibe from the first one. Feels more focused and less weird and while most would say the first is better because of Vin Diesel, I found myself enjoying this one more. I think I was tired of the eastern european trope of the first one. Also Ice Cube makes everything slightly more entertaining.
A decent action movie though Ice Cube takes the character way too seriously, which does not really work with the slightly goofy story. Still, a decent action movie. Somehow, Vin Diesel is missing though.
Not my first time to watch this and I was 100% correct in my recollection that it was pretty bad years ago; it's even worse now. While the first one was laughingly unbelievable but watchable (assuming you were willing to disengage your brain for a couple hours) this wasn't even fun to watch it was so atrocious. At the risk of offending someone (and if I do, get over it) this installment seemed like it was nothing but an appeal to the black community: an effort to remake the original "xXx" film only geared towards the hip-hop "black" community. Vin Diesel will probably never win an Oscar for his acting chops but Ice Cube...seriously, this was offensive, it was so stereotypical and so awful. The dialogue sounds like something I would've written in freshman English (we're talking high school freshman, not college) and the over-the-top stunts were so eye-rolling unbelievable they weren't even fun to watch. A so-called half-million dollar Shelby knockoff jumps the highway ONTO a railroad track, bounces between the tracks and the ties a few times, yet still manages to stay aright long enough to burn the tires off the rims so it can catch a 200+mph speeding "bullet train" all without derailing, overheating, or otherwise. You get my drift: this wasn't "fun"; this was just absolutely stupid. The added insult of "let's throw a white boy in there to be our stooge" only added to the drivel in this entire film. There was nothing appealing or entertaining about this one, especially right on the heels of watching a "fun" (not overly enticing, granted, but still "fun") film with Vin Diesel. Lest my review be misconstrued as a rant against black actors (it isn't) let it be known that I think any of these films could've been pulled off by any quality actor: the problem is, Ice Cube is NOT a quality actor. His "attitude" comes across as a farce and his "tough guy" persona never really feels genuine. He's got the scowl, but seems to lack the real "attitude" that his character is supposed to have. I'm thinking Wesley Snipes - in his prime - could have EASILY pulled this character off much more realistically - and with a lot more fun - than Ice Cube did. Overall, this movie just flat blew chunks and I finished it _only_ so I could say I watched all three films. While I might watch the first one again some day (that's debatable), I don't want to EVER sit through this stinkpot again. What a waste of time.
