Recently, there have been a bunch of movies about old timers trying to get back on the horse for different reasons. And a bunch of movies about American football as well. This one is one of the better ones made recently. It is based on a true and inspiring story, has a good aftertaste, and is light and pleasant to watch, even though the story is quite predictable in many aspects.
The Thing becoming a football player.
uhmm The Bulldogs went on a 4th and inches with 27 sec on the play clock, 7 pts up and TOL 0 for Lobos. Why? Bulldogs could taken the knee and ended the game. The writers needed to make the scene real for the Bulldogs to NEED to go on a 4th and inches.
I really wanted to introduce my dad to this movie last year in the theater but didn’t get the chance to. Tonight was a great time to show him this. I knew he’d like it and sure enough he definitely did. My dad gets really fired up and passionate watching sports movies like this. I get a lot of that same passion and energy watching inspirational sports movies. I loved this one last year and still loved it. It’s not perfect and has some corny writing at moments but it’s my type of movie. I overlook clichés during movies like this. Anyways this is definitely one of my favorites from last year.
“It’s not about winning. It’s about finishing what you start.” I knew I was going to eat this up when I watched the trailer and I sure did. I absolutely loved everything about this movie. It’s a powerful true story about a 59 year old man who goes back to college to play football for his senior year. It sounds pretty ridiculous but it’s a real story. This delivered on everything I look for in movies. This touched on so many different topics and themes. I was a huge fan of Michael Chiklis here. I’m not on the age he was or trying to go back to school but I found myself relating to his character in a lot of ways. I’ve always loved football but especially loved the way they coupled that with family, romance, fatherhood, regrets and hope. It is technically faith-based but doesn’t go down the preachy route at all. As someone who loves training montages and things like, that this delivered several times on that. This is really the type of that is made for someone like myself. Do you ever watch a movie and just think to yourself that was made for you? I love walking out of a movie theater and feeling inspired and challenged. This movie challenged me in a lot of ways. It’s a great start to the marathon of movies I’ll be watching at the theater today. * Triple Feature at AMC Crestwood 18
