The story, based on the real life of Ernie Davis, is before all interesting in depicting racism against black people in the 1960s US. During this time the perception and treatment of black people was about to change in the US (better late then never), but very slowly and at different paces in different parts of the country. While a bit pathetic at times, the movie is good and interesting to watch. The acting performances are excellent too, thus managing to bring nuance into the discussion.

What a great story. I read up on the actual facts and, as most ‘true story’ movies are, this one embellished a few events. Such a sad story, and even sadder seeing a young Chadwick Boseman who died far too young as well. :-(
