Hmm. Well. Hmm. At it's close, I enjoyed this film. Originally, the prior sentence was a question. I appreciate the surreal aspects of this fragmented, chaotic and dreamlike exploration of... I'm not exactly sure. I look forward to the next project Curry Barker develops. Note: While I rated this project a 6, which is above average - in hindsight, I enjoyed it quite a bit. It may not make sense, but don't let that rating (which is good), fool you. As always, your mileage may vary. There's something there. This short film may come across as an exercise or as more style and atmosphere than substance, but if all that was on display here can be focused on something more concrete, look out. After all, look at much of the work of, say, David Lynch (among many others). Films don't need to adhere to structure or traditional narratives. Again, looking forward to Barker's future work.

A glimpse into Curry Barker’s mind after watching Obsession. In this early work by the director, you can see a much rougher, less profound skeleton of what would later become his magnum opus so far, Obsession. After watching Obsession and looking a bit into the director's trajectory, I wasn't sure if I wanted to keep following his future works or not. On one hand, anything similar to his latest film was highly welcome and anticipated; on the other, I couldn't quite tell if the movie had been a one-hit wonder or if the director genuinely had something to offer. Curry Barker has a lot to offer, and this short film proves it. He has incredibly interesting ideas and a masterful touch for creating comedic situations that are simultaneously deeply uncomfortable and disturbing. He creates a highly unusual and intriguing brand of horror through the unnatural movements of his characters; he takes an action that should be completely normal and turns it into pure terror—a whisper of footsteps behind your back and a prickling on the back of your neck that is hard to ignore. Without a doubt, I now look forward to the director's future works with high expectations and zero hesitation.

There's a scene in this short where a couple is in bed. The boyfriend wakes in the middle of the night to find a creepy old man in the room. The girlfriend wakes too and starts screaming, then stops mid-scream, smiles at the boyfriend, and goes back to sleep. It's one of the most unnerving things ever. I'm still thinking about it days after seeing it. Curry Barker, he's something else.

Old chairs really are creepy and this short was all sorts of creepy and weird. Good performances and the character's reactions to what's happening to them always felt realistic to me. Really high on the psychological horror. The bedroom scene was so creepy, the table scene was hilarious, and a lot of wild stuff happening in the last few minutes.
