It’s finally happening. ChatGPT writes for TV now.
Okay so... This could've been something really well done, there were endings they could've cooked up that would've made all the drawn out drama and mystery work, but you can't have a show that moves slow only to end in the most obvious way possible. And in the end, no one is likable, they're a family of jerks and crybabies. It's not painful to watch, it would've made a better movie than a show though because it's too drawn out to not get any real pay off in the end.
The premise has promise that the writing didn’t keep. The pace was jagged in some places and cumbersome in others. The performances were mediocre. I give this limited series a 5 (meh) out of 10. [Drama]
I hate that these kinds of "mysteries" are being made now. You start with a story that - if told in chronological order - would have bored anyone to tears. You then take that story and tell it in two timelines so as to create completely unearned drama. It was pretty evident from the end of the first episodes that they were going to draw out the simple story by tossing out misdirection after poorly-executed misdirection. When you realize this fact, it was pretty easy to see how the "mystery" was going to end up. I hate this kind of storytelling because it isn't really telling a story or earning drama. Having watched Fargo just before this didn't help as that was a show that earned everything that it got. follow me at https://IHATEBadMovies.com or facebook IHATEBadMovies
Despite the good cast, I thought the show was virtually ruined by the extremely weak detective subplot. As characters the detectives were a bore and the writing here was incredibly lazy.
