_Vegas_ is a formulistic romantic comedy that does not stray far from the etched in stone script that has had 257 other movies made just like this one. We cover every base here with the newlyweds trying to force the other to renege on their commitment to the judge of trying to make the marriage work for a period of 6 months. Shockingly, they start to develop real feelings for each other. Then...well you probably know what happens already. A trio of surprisingly toned down performances actually save this film. Dennis Miller as Judge Whopper was excellent and timely as lately in the news some judges have been rendering some very crazy rulings. Queen Latifah was also very subdued as Dr. Twitchell the marriage counselor. The biggest shock was having an _SNL_ cast member Jason Sudeikis play the most non-funny part in the film. I thought those 3 were great. Watch this if you must, but trust me, you have already seen it before.
The typical late 2000s rom-com that doesn't pretend to be more than it is: easy entertainment with two hot actors goofing around. Cameron Diaz and Ashton Kutcher have chemistry, you can tell they had fun filming it. There are gags that work, others not so much, but overall it does its job as a light comedy to watch without thinking. It's not cinema, but it doesn't pretend to be. Perfect for a hungover Sunday.
