Well, Well ,not the most horrible film ever I've seen, but certainly not blazing a new path. Not to long ago there was a movie in a set of movies that was almost a carbon copy of this. So close in fact I thought it was another sequel at first So what's the point anymore. I want to see something new. Not zombies ,not aliens, not vampires, not demons, not viruses, and certainly not Armageddon. The world is too close to that already for that to scare me. How about something original and untreatable or unprecedented. Unstoppable. That may surprise me. I would be more shocked if gas prices were under 4.00 a gallon in new jersey, than I would be by being attacked by another virus these days.
I believe this is my second Uruguayan horror film and this was so much better than I could have expected. Suspenseful, stylish, entertaining, this is overall a solid virus/zombie outbreak film with a quite interesting twist, the infected needs a 32-second break to recharge after killing those not yet infected. The film looks fantastic with the cool overhead shots in the beginning, the red lights which dominate every scene, and it makes effective use of darkness to create a compelling atmosphere dripping with tension, with a great score to accompany it. A few zombie film cliches hurt this film a bit but the setting and the drama balance it out for me.
It's not bad.. but how slow it is at times...
It's a fun watch. Some really strong visuals, and a pretty good central conceit. If you like zombie-horror with fast moving zombies than this is for you. The only downside I had was absolutely crushed blacks. Some of the dark scenes were painful. Not sure whether that was a shudder compression issue or an initial filming problem.
