I don't care guys... I love Zombie Flesh Eaters!!! Is it the best zombie flick ever? No!!! Of course not, but that doesn't matter. This was one of those films we only heard whispers about from friends that had seen it (or just wanted you to believe they had), and when I finally got to see it at the age of twelve, I was blown away. I've got a lot of good memories about this one. Dares for friends that hadn't (dared to?!?) seen it yet. Scared girlfriends that clung to me more than they watched the scary film. And of course...the first time I saw it. To me...this is the best zombie flick...EVER!!!
While this movie does have one or the other good moment, I generally do not get why it is so highly rated. (For info: I watched the English version and the dubbing is mediocre at best.) The special effects are cheap, mostly unconvincing and repetitive. The story is decent at best but the acting is just bad. Mostly the actors seem not to know what to do while they wait for the zombies come in slow motion towards them. They just wait patiently and quietly to be bitten in order to perform a quirky “I am terrified” act. This is to me at the lower end of a B movie. Ok for hard core fans of the genre but to forget about by the general public. As said, I do not get the 7 and more star ratings. But maybe that is just me …
Fulci and eye trauma. Why do you hate eyeballs! Yeah this film is as amazing on my 50+ watch as it was on my first.
Watched this multiple times and it _still_ isn't old! LOL Dated, yes, but still a ton of fun for fans of hardcore zombie movies, especially those Italian masterpieces. The acting is atrocious, the dialogue is so awful it's laughable - _"Si, senor. Miguel guard. Doctor no worry."_ - and the overall film is utterly awful, but wow... so much fun to watch. I still consider the scene from 00:45:55 - 00:46:20 probably one of my favorites - if not one of the best ever - in zombie flicks. Makes absolutely no sense (just watch it and decide for yourself) but still just so much fun to watch, enjoy, and laugh at...and get a queasy stomach in certain parts. I've watched Lucio Fulci zombie movies so many times they almost feel like an old t-shirt now: Just comfortable to get into in spite of how worn-out they are or how many holes they have. I don't know if I'll ever watch this one again - at my age, probably not - but it was great to watch it again this time. Laughed through most of it, cringed at some of it, but enjoyed almost every second of it all over again. Still available on Pluto at https://pluto.tv/en/search/details/movies/zombie-1978-1-1
It's a classic in the zombie movie genre.
