Les vies d'Erik Lanshof et de cinq de ses amis les plus proches prennent des chemins différents lorsque l'armée allemande envahit les Pays-Bas en 1940 : combat et résistance, peur et résignation, collaboration et haute trahison.

The original title of the film is Soldaat van Oranje,
Highly satirical in typical Verhoeven fashion for the first 30 minutes.
- The parallels of dehumanization between the frathouse hazing and the Nazi concentration camps were brilliant and very disturbing. - The Dutch soldier saving the queen's portrait while another soldier is screaming after losing his foot. - The recruiting officer suffering from shellshock as he mutters repeatedly "come back in 10 days".
Unfortunately, after that it becomes an overly long spy thriller that should've been an hour shorter.
The plot blurb for this sounds more interesting than the movie was, despite Rutger Hauer always being a presence I can't take my eyes off of. But I struggled to connect with this and it's the kind of film that I always wish was just a half hour shorter.
Based on true events that occurred in the Netherlands during World War II
Could have been good, but the guy talking over the film explaining everything ruined it.
