This film has a lot of issues. It's disconnected, disjointed and doesn't really do great character development. As for it being a pseudo biopic for a horror writer Shirley doesn't give any indication of this. It really wouldn't have mattered. Moss was the only reason I watched it and her performance was good. The film was slow and lacked an arc for sure. I wouldn't recommend this film.

Elizabeth Moss sure does have a type of role.

The only reason I watched this was for Josephine Decker, as she's directing the upcoming biopic on Sinéad O'Connor, and to put it short, I hope it's far better than this. I don't know anything about who 'Shirley' Jackson is, and after watching, I still don't. To be fair, I stopped paying attention about halfway through due to the bone-dry pacing and constant repetition. I think the casting, acting, and authenticity were great, but the story didn't do much for me personally.

the acting alone makes this worth watching. soundtrack is lovely too. it's a disjointed story with no real beginning and end, but i don't feel like it was time wasted either. COULD HAVE USED MORE OF LOGAN LERMANS BEAUTIFUL FACE THOUGH. and victoria pedretti.

Performances to love but characters that are hard to like. It's an imagined chapter in Jackson's life, and while sometimes engrossing, it can also be frustrating and cold.
