Interesting how these "last man alive" flicks of the fifties, after the nuclear apocalypse humans and their remains have simply disappeared. Putting the side, after a slow start this movie actually evolves into a quite interesting drama about social standings that are no longer relevant. Sarah Crandall has her battles about being a young woman that wants to be independent but also charm the man she wants by the means she knows. Meanwhile Ralph Burton is occupied by ulterior motives and pushes Sarah away because of his projected past racial and social inferiority. Obviously there needs to be the normative white man catalyst that is unfortunately a lost opportunity and becomes a paper doll for the narrative. While the story is easy enough and the provocative elements are wrapped up and digestible, my expectations of the movie were a rollercoaster from naive and simplistic to surprisingly intriguing and finally to disappointment. If you are into the genre or interested because of the sensitive topics touched, go for it. Otherwise, I don't know really.
