Rankin/Bass adapts L. Frank Baum’s beloved classic _The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus_ into a stop-motion animated feature. The story follows a meeting of the council of immortals as the Great Ak tells his fellow council members who Santa Claus is and pleads for them to confer immortality on him so that Santa can continue his good work for the children of the world. Unfortunately the writing’s a little weak and fails to capture the magic of Baum’s novel. However, the character designs for the fantasy creatures are rather creative and interesting, and the voice work is also well-done. _The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus_ is one of Rankin/Bass’ more unique productions and, despite its flaws, it has a bit of Christmas magic to it.
