The story of a hard-boiled, alcoholic detective investigating the disappearance of a 15-year-old boy where, sadly, clichés are easier to come across than clues. While the subplot of the detective's own troubled son is an interesting twist, it's completely abandoned after the second act by the director who had long ago lost control of the project to the cast. Vincent Cassell has award blindness as he stumbles across the screen shrieking, "Watch me act! Attention, here comes more acting! Look, I'm going to act again. Stop acting in front of me Roman Duris and Sandrine Kiberlain, your acting is getting in the way of my acting!" One can only hope the book is better than the movie, because here the actors get in the way of the story.
