A decent film, even if it does fall short as it progresses. Jack Hawkins is very good in the lead role, I very much enjoyed his performance here. He is the only big positive though, as none of the other cast members stand out - not to say they are bad, just not memorable. The premise is OK, though it isn't stitched together all that well - it, at least to me, feels like a series of events with no major connection. I never felt invested in any of the storylines, or any of the other characters for that matter. The stuff with Laurence Naismith's Arthur has intrigue, but his appearance is rather short-lived and not delved massively into. This is nothing appalling at all, 'Gideon of Scotland Yard' just isn't anything particularly good - an average watch.
