Great film regarding the 80s and the climate of the time. Character piece masterfully played by Cruise. The main character is morally questionable, but his charisma draws you in and really is a master class on an antihero. I found it engaging and thoroughly entertaining. 8/10

An entertaining 2 hours movie, following(loosely) the story of pilot Barry Seal and his involvement with drug cartels and CIA. Beautifully shot, with nice aerial footage, it has a very 70's feel that I really enjoyed. The story is well paced for the most part, even though I think about 15 minutes could have been cut and not missed. Tom Cruise delivers once again a good performance, playing convincingly the main character. I really liked the protagonist's character; while morally questionable, it no doubt has a lot of charisma that pulls you in. Also nice that he doesn't feel like a super awesome action hero, but looks more like a regular dude who finds himself between a rock and a hard place. I enjoyed all the famous people that Seal manages to meet, [spoiler] from Noriega to George W. Bush[/spoiler]. It really connects the film with the real world. In the end, nothing crazy good, but still a nice way to spend an evening. 7.5/10

Have you seen Narcos? Yes, now you know why the fat guy with a black beard from the CIA was always fucking Javier Peña's joint operations with the Colombian Army, the US ambassador didn’t want to expose the Colombian Government to end the immunity of the Cali Cartel (IRAN-CONTRA) and the real reason for Peña's resignation from the DEA. The movie is probably the best one starred by Tom Cruise in at least a decade... Not a very difficult achievement, indeed. While being entertaining, it manages to critique. the US in a subtle and sarcastic way. The film critiques the self indulged and naif belief that most of the US continue to have about their own country and government, like that they always have the moral high ground and that the motivation for any of their interventions is to save, protect and facilitate democracy in the world... When the reality is that they create and feed their own daemons, in secrecy, for their own interest, but when they go rogue the push the western world into a holy war, like going after Sadam Hussain under the excuse of weapons of mass destruction, the hunt for the former CIA trainned, armed and finaced assets Bin Laden and its group Al-Qaeda, the War on Terror, The War on Drugs,etc...

It is an interesting film, but it never quite works. I mean are we supposed to empathise with Cruise's character? Cause he is a bad dude, no questions. He may not be shooting people but he taking money from murderers and facilitating the expansion of their business. I don't think that aspect was ever really explored, the consequences of the business he was in.

Disappointing Tom Cruise didn't have any running scenes, nobody fake runs better than Tom Cruise. This movie has its fun parts but the pacing is a little off. Doug Liman does some interesting things with the camera but nothing extraordinary. I found the Columbia story line the most interesting. I really like Narcos and wanted more Escobar.
