Synopsis
Printemps 1914. Jeune femme féministe à l'esprit frondeur, Vera Brittain est résolue à passer les examens d'admission à Oxford, malgré l'hostilité de ses parents particulièrement conservateurs. Décidée à devenir écrivain, elle est encouragée et soutenue par son frère et sa bande d'amis – et notamment par le brillant Roland Leighton dont elle s’éprend. Mais les rêves de Vera se brisent au moment où l'Angleterre entre en guerre et où tous les jeunes hommes s'engagent dans l'armée. Elle renonce alors à écrire pour devenir infirmière. Tandis que la jeune femme se rapproche de plus en plus du front, elle assiste avec désespoir à l’effondrement de son monde.

Powerful war drama leaves you on the verge of tears, well written and well acted

A strong movie that shows WW1 from the point of view of a girly that sees her brother, friends and her fiancee going to war and many not coming back. The movie does not show the trenches of WW1 but rather the people left behind at home and, after she becomes a nurse, also the results of war in the field hospitals. A strong movie that, even though it has a few length, does convey the horrors and desperation of a war that did crush the soldiers physically and mentally.

Every emotion provoking scene in this movie is cut too soon. It makes it hard to get into.
