Synopsis
A Silver Lode, le jour de la fête nationale. Dan Ballard s'apprête à épouser la fille du plus riche propriétaire local. La cérémonie est interrompue par l'arrivée impromptue de McCarthy, un mystérieux agent fédéral, et de ses trois adjoints. Celui-ci détient un mandat d'arrêt au nom de Ballard, pour le meurtre de son frère et le vol de 20 000 dollars, perpétrés deux ans plus tôt. Bientôt, toute la ville est partagée entre l'innocence et la culpabilité de Ballard. Dan demande deux heures de répit...

It's one thing to make a social commentary movie, and it's another to literally name the villain McCARTY. This movie doesn't really work on any level, as every character has to act quite foolishly throughout in order to sustain even 80 minutes of run time, and the social commentary is drab and obvious. "The Crucible" this is not. Give me The Ox-Bow Incident any day.
