This is what you get when you mix a vampire movie with a gangster movie. Bloody, thrilling, and occasionally funny. We are following our vampire, Marie, and the movie starts with her completely naked. How can I not like a story that begins with itty bitty titties, and a fluffy bush? Masterpiece. While this does blend genres, it is mainly a horror movie. The tone is serious, yet the dialog is where the humor comes in, leaving it with a feeling like if the cast were comedic actors, this would lean much farther into a comedy. Maybe that won't work for some people, but it works for me; it gives the film some dark humor to lighten the mood, though never comes across as silly. The obvious comparison is going to be _An American Werewolf in London_ (1981). I'd recommend this to fans of vampire movies, provided you also like crime thrillers.
This was a really fun movie. Semi-serious, sometimes funny, a great balance. It was interesting to see a whole bunch of the guys who would later star in the Sopranos, and in much the same roles.
This is a very urban vampire.
Very unique and interesting concept. There's some great bits in it, but the lead is completely unlikeable and kills any chance at getting invested in the movie. With someone else in the role, it could've been something great. The idea alone of a French vampire accidentally resurrecting a mobster to run around Pittsburgh as a creature of the night wreaking havoc, is something ripe for something fresh. There were some really great effects too.
