I’ll be honest, I kind of dragged myself into watching Cardcaptor Sakura: The Movie. Not because I was hyped, but more like I was punishing myself. That said, the only reason I made it through (and ended up enjoying it) is because I actually like the characters, they’re surprisingly memorable, even if the series as a whole never fully clicked with me. This movie ended up being my favorite piece of Cardcaptor Sakura media. It’s cozy, pretty, and much better animated than the show, which often felt bare-bones. Here, there’s a real aesthetic going on, with smoother animation and more detailed visuals. The action sequences feel more symbolic and spiritual, and there’s a nostalgic emotional core that gives it weight. The story itself is pretty simple, classic CCS, but it works, especially in this longer format. I liked where the characters went, and it honestly feels like a real movie rather than just an extended episode. It could technically stand alone, but I definitely got more out of it having seen the show. Some scenes stuck with me, especially the dragon flying over Hong Kong and those dreamy underwater sequences. Visually, those moments really hit. If you’re into cozy 90s anime or shows with a chill, magical vibe, I’d recommend this. It won’t blow your mind, but it’s a solid, comforting watch, and way better than I expected
