[Locarno '25, 4K] This film cannot be understood without exploring the Didactic Cinema that Roberto Rossellini began developing when he retired from filmmaking and wanted to use television as a tool to disseminate human knowledge, although his son Renzo has claimed that he only made it out of economic necessity. In this case, the director focuses on the offices, where the figure of Alcide De Gasperi is presented as a moderate trying to find a balance between left-wing and right-wing political parties. The film, too full of conversations, attempts to maintain historical accuracy by relying on official documents, but also conveys a certain melancholy.
