Où que vous alliez, vous n'oublierez jamais d'où vous venez.
Été 1969 : Buddy, 9 ans, sait parfaitement qui il est et à quel monde il appartient, celui de la classe ouvrière des quartiers nord de Belfast où il vit heureux, choyé et en sécurité. Mais vers la fin des années 60, alors que le premier homme pose le pied sur la Lune et que la chaleur du mois d’août se fait encore sentir, les rêves d’enfant de Buddy virent au cauchemar. La grogne sociale latente se transforme soudain en violence dans les rues du quartier. Buddy découvre le chaos et l’hystérie, un nouveau paysage urbain fait de barrières et de contrôles, et peuplé de bons et de méchants.

Was lucky enough to snag tickets to this at London Film Festival. It’s been over a month now since I saw it and the scene featuring Everlasting Love has been living in my head rent free ever since. It may not be everyone’s cup of tea but you’ll be hard pressed to find anyone that can’t relate to the family in some way. Best ensemble and picture? Here’s hoping because the cast worked seamlessly together and their bond on and off screen is evident (and Jamie along with the rest of the cast sat and watched it with us.. again.. literally my biggest achievements and flexes in life are being able to watch the film with him a few rows away and on the screen idc idc)
Like CGI photos of your childhood: technically well-made, but too polished to feel authentic. I'm sure this semi-autobiographical film was a passion project for Kenneth Branagh and I'm glad he could get it off his cinematic chest, but, tbh, I was more into the brief, vintage news clips they showed in the background. Now let's see a film based on the Boney M. song...
This wasn't bad but I feel the Buddy character was, largely, ripped off from Jojo Rabbit.
