The first striking thing is the beautiful location photography in Monterey; it's gorgeous. The second thing is the wonderful acting and repartee from Brando and Malden--there are some moments of delicious tension between them, and it's super fun to see them reunited. But the movie overall sits a little strange; it seems to have broader aspirations than it ultimately realizes, and the middle third drags quite a bit (despite a lovely performance by Pina Pellicer.) I don't know, it's an odd one.
