While on one hand I don't know why everyone is saying this movie is terrible, it's also not fantastic and it's very easy to miss details if you're not paying strict attention to it. While I think the acting was solid my only real complaint regarding it is I feel like the story itself wasn't a very good one. It's basically the story of two people who act like they're good normal people but are secretly bastards until one of them does something so rotten the other one can't even justify it anymore. And then wham bam boom, a few more things happen and the story ends
with them both dead.
It's not awful, it's just not memorable or really based on a story you want to watch.
Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence star in the dramatic period film Serena. Set in the 1930s, a businessman and his young bride work together to run a struggling North Carolina logging company. Cooper and Lawrence both give strong performances and have good chemistry together. And the production values are especially good; particularly the score, which does a great job at setting mood and atmosphere. But the plot is pretty thin, and takes a rather dark turn at the end. Yet despite a few weaknesses, Serena is an intriguing character drama.
It had very interesting ideas and an intriguing story but it could've been executed better. I found myself a bit bored throughout and couldn't connect to the characters as much as I would've liked to.
Duller than a very dull, dull thing.
A 5.3 IMDb rating is not worth it though. inspite of a uncharacteristic ending, the performance by these actors were pretty commendable.
