[Raindance '25] The documentary is most effective when it portrays this community in a poetic way, showing the problems shared by many of its young inhabitants but also the particular challenges of queer people who still face social discrimination. Far from portraying Flamingo Camp as a kind of false utopia—although that may have been the original idea for the camp—it doesn't avoid the friction that arises between its inhabitants. The film's transformation from the initial approach to the devastating death of one of them also reflects utopias shattered by harsh reality.
