Maybe interesting if you're a teen or like 80s movies for just being 80s movies. Plot revolves around clips of a dumb stoner, sex and high school stereotypes knowing their place or being embarrassed. Nothing interesting happens and it's not funny. I imagine at the time of release it was significant.
Heckerling and Crowe construct a totally timeless and authentic window into high school life and the trials and tribulations adolescents go through. It shows the deeper problems teenagers face while also showing the lighter side of things through being fun as hell.
One thing I always ask myself when I'm finished watching Fast Times is why this movie is so well liked. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy this movie more than most early 80s comedies, but it's not exactly a timeless classic. Except for the one contribution to movie history that everyone remembers (Yes...THAT scene. Thank you Phoebe Cates), Fast Times has not much going for it these days. If you are looking for a trip through mastr...err...nostalgia lane, Fast Times might be a good way to spend an hour and a half, but there are more interesting choices out there.
I watched this movie a couple of times when it first came out and loved it. Tons of great music, a decent storyline, and Phoebe Cates!!! Beautiful... and yes they are... Watching it again in 2020 it has lost it's special place in my heart, but what hasn't? It launched SO MANY careers it's incredible looking back for that reason alone. I still give it a 7/10 because it's better than 99% of the movies I've watched back to when I was 18-22 and they really stink.
A movie from my youth I thought I’d watch again. Although the movie obviously isn’t as relevant to me I still enjoyed it. Adolescence is a beautiful thing.
