As someone who loves history, I enjoyed this film. Movies like this don’t get made very often anymore, so it was refreshing to see. While it’s probably not something I’ll revisit, that’s not because it’s poorly made. It’s a straightforward historical drama that explores an overlooked chapter of George Washington’s life and the origins of his growing resentment toward the British. William Franklyn-Miller gives a solid performance as Washington, portraying his ambition and determination to earn respect and improve his standing despite lacking a formal education and enduring early personal tragedy. The battle scenes were well executed, and the interactions between the British, French, and Native Americans felt authentic. It’s not a particularly groundbreaking or emotionally powerful film, but it’s an engaging look at a lesser-known period of American history. It won’t be for everyone, but if you’re a fan of these elevated, History Channel-style historical dramas, it’s worth checking out.

Thought it was going to be more of a story line closer to the revolutionary war but it ended up being a good surprise about him at a young age coming up as an officer in the British army. The filming and plot development was very good. The intimate relationship between Washington and his militia was very well done and the importance of courage and change was a fantastic message to watch develop.

To start I have to say I had an incredibly negative theater experience. I was seated in front of an amateur historian (I assume) providing commentary throughout the film. So I can’t entirely rule out that this may be influencing my opinion. Having said that, this was a fairly mediocre movie. There are some moments of entertainment but it primarily comes across as propaganda with hints of religious undertones. The writing bounces between rallying speeches, references to divine greatness, & historical colorful foreshadowing to the coming revolution. The writers were clearly proud of the line "Even a pawn can take a king," as it’s said like five times. Still all that is relatively inoffensive making this at least watchable.

It was great but honestly it just touched on a very brief moment of George Washingtons life compared to something like the Michael Jackson movie expanding more on his golden 80 years. overall a 6/10 movie, Andy Serkis was great in the movie too bad he died pretty quickly there.
